Four steps
The whole voice range test takes four steps and about a minute, with nothing to install.

Tap Start and allow the mic. Any laptop, phone or headset mic works.

Begin on a low, easy “ah” and step up slowly, or glide up like a siren.

Hold each note about 2 seconds until the ring fills. Quick cracks don't count.

Tap Stop to see your notes in Hz, octaves, voice type and similar singers. Go deeper with the voice type test.
Reading your result
When you stop singing, you get more than two note names. Here is what each part of the result tells you and how to read it.
Your range runs from the lowest to the highest note you held steady, each with its pitch in Hz (A4 = 440 Hz). Brief squeaks are listed apart as extremes.
Only care about one end? Try the Highest Note Test or the Lowest Note Test.
Octaves are the semitones between your two notes divided by 12, so A2 to G4 is 1.8. Untrained voices often span 1.5–2 octaves, trained singers 2–3.
A narrow first result usually means a cold voice or notes that weren't held long enough. See what counts as a good range.
Your range is compared with seven voice types, from bass to soprano, showing how much of each you cover. Pick male or female to narrow it down.
Range is only part of voice type, so treat the match as a strong first guess.
Meet three famous singers with a similar range, then save or share your voice range test result as an image.
Singer ranges are widely cited public estimates, shown for fun, not measurements of the artists.
Voice types
Most adults can sing about one and a half to two octaves without training. Where that span sits on the keyboard is what separates male and female voices, and it is your first clue to your voice type.

Men's voices sit about an octave below women's, so the same melody sung by both is usually an octave apart. Ranges are typical classical reference ranges (C4 is middle C); untrained voices often cover a little less.

Seven voice types
A singing range test tells you which notes you can reach. Your voice type is where that range sits, and it points to the choir part, song keys and singers that suit you. Here are the seven types, highest to lowest.

C4–C6
The highest voice type, bright and light at the top, often carrying the melody in a choir.

A3–A5
The middle female voice, warmer than a soprano and the most common type among women.

F3–F5
The lowest female voice, rich and dark. True contraltos can reach down to E3 or even D3.

E3–E5
A male voice that sings in the alto range, mostly in head voice or falsetto.

C3–C5
The highest common male voice, known for ringing high notes in pop and opera.

A2–A4
The most common male voice, sitting between tenor and bass with a warm middle.

E2–E4
The lowest voice type, with a deep, dark sound that anchors a choir.

Why it's accurate
Many vocal range testers report the highest squeak your mic picks up. This voice range test measures the notes you can actually sing, and your voice never leaves your device.
Warm up for a minute, then sing from low to high. Your range appears the moment you stop.

A note counts only once you hold it for about 2 seconds, so cracks and slides never stretch your range.

Comfortable range and brief extremes are shown apart, with your voice type, similar singers and a tip.

Pitch is tracked dozens of times a second, from C2 (65 Hz) up to F6 (1,400 Hz).
